Year 10 Outdoor Education classes went to the Wero Whitewater Park in Manukau to practice and develop whitewater kayaking skills and reinforce concepts introduced in the classroom.

The sessions started with the fitting of wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and sprayskirts before each student adjusted their kayak. They then practiced their paddle strokes on the lake, including edging a kayak in preparation for exiting and entering eddies. The students were then given the opportunity to paddle the grade 2 Tamariki River, where they tried to stay in their boats or swim down the river if they capsized.
