Mr Moyle was presented with a medal and certificate for his service to MAGS by our Board of Trustees Presiding Member Catherine Murphy and Headmaster Mr Drumm.
Albertian Greg Moyle (1968-72) was recognised for his long, dedicated and consequential service to MAGS at a special dinner at the Northern Club on November 20.
Mr Moyle was presented with a medal and certificate to recognise his service but it was also announced that the new Performing Arts space planned at MAGS will be named the ‘G.J. Moyle Theatre’.
Mr Moyle has helped to kick-start the funding for the theatre, which will be a redevelopment of the old library, by putting up some of his collection of art works for auction and raising $250,000 towards the theatre.
At the dinner last night, MC’ed by our Board of Trustees Presiding Member Catherine Murphy, Mr Moyle received praise from Mrs Murphy, Mr Drumm and former headmasters Dale Burden and Greg Taylor for his vision and leadership during his 28 years on the board.
It was pointed out that during that time MAGS had hit many milestones, with some impressive new buildings and developments around the school and the admission of girls to MAGS.
Along with MAGS Foundation Chairman Peter Thorp, Mr Moyle had been influential in firstly keeping the ASB MAGS farm under lease and then having it gifted to the MAGS Foundation by the ASB.
Mr Moyle said Mr Thorp and other Albertians such as Dale Griffiths and David Griffin had helped pave the way for him and helped to develop a vision for MAGS and secure the best outcomes for the school.
He said that having the confidence of the Senior Leadership of the school allowed the board to get on with governance and stay out of school management – a recipe for success at MAGS.
He also said the board had been effective as it had succession planning in place, which meant a firm and stable path could be mapped out and followed as new members took up the reins.
