The annual Arts Awards Dinner was a celebration of the best, the brightest and the most committed in the Arts at Sorrento in the Park on October 24.
Heads of Departments of each Arts subject gave an overview of the year in their subject, and read the citations of each prize winner, demonstrating their pride in the achievements of each student and the passion for their subject area.
Director of Arts Co-curricular Ms Cesan said, “There was entertainment spread throughout the evening, and this was a testament to both the talent and diversity of expression in the Arts.”
The Dux Artiums were named as Sancy Prabhakar, an Excellence Level performer in Music and Drama, and Erich Retzlaff, a talented singer, musician and actor.
Among the special awards, the MAGS Megacrew was recognised for Outstanding Extra-curricular Representation for a group for winning the NZ Blueprint schools championship for the third year in a row; Phoebe Newcombe won the equivalent individual award for her commitment to and leadership of the Wearable Art Group. Over the past three years, she has inspired and guided a large group of MAGS students of all ages, and created two award-winning garments.
Khalen Quensell won the Bruce Taylor Award for Dedication to the Arts, while Issie Hasler won the Award for Excellence in Arts Management for all her behind-the-scenes work in managing rosters for student assistance and supporting Arts and Cultural events.
Epeli Prescott won the award for Outstanding Arts Service, in recognition of his positivity and organisation as well as his leadership of the Centennial Choir and the Māori and Pasifika Drama group – among his many activities across the Arts.
