Year 8 Testing Days

We look forward to welcoming Year 8 students to Mount Albert Grammar School for our annual Testing Days, when they will sit some academic tests and have the opportunity to trial for our Sports Academies.  

Girls will attend on Wednesday, 1 November, 8.30am        

Boys will attend on Thursday, 2 November, 8.30am        

Please assemble outside the Hall.

Some students may feel a little overwhelmed by the prospect of sitting these tests, but should be reassured that there is no need to prepare or study, and that everyone will be feeling the same.  They will sit a series of short tests covering reading comprehension, writing and numeracy which are set at Intermediate level, plus a separate thinking skills test.

Children will be involved in this testing from 9am until about 11.30am. The testing time includes an Interval Break for students to have something to eat and drink and go to the bathroom.

Trials for Sports Academies will commence from about 12.15pm, after the students have had a chance to eat their lunch.  Please see below for a booklet about MAGS’ Sports Academies.  Expressions of interest will also be taken for Dance and Drama Academies; please see the flyer also below.

Testing Catch-up Day:  Friday 17 November

Another Testing Day will be held on Friday, 17 November, for both boys and girls unable to attend on November 1-2. Please assemble outside the Hall at 8.30am.

Uniform

We encourage you to purchase your child’s MAGS school uniform from our Uniform Shop at school on the Testing Days, to avoid the rush in January. The shop will be open from 8am-1.30pm on both days, and is located beside the carpark between the school and the Mt Albert Aquatic Centre.

Below is information regarding which uniform items are compulsory and optional in Year 9, and their cost. Please allow about half an hour for sizing and payment.

The Uniform Shop will be open until the end of term and on some dates through the summer holidays. Please check this website for opening days and times.
