The Mount Albert Grammar School Board of Trustees, together with Headmaster Mr Patrick Drumm, have appointed two Associate Principals and two new Deputy Principals ready for the new school year in 2018.

Current Acting Associate Principal Ms Jo Williams has been appointed to the position permanently, and current Deputy Principal Ms Fiona Barker has also been appointed an Associate Principal.

The school’s two new Deputy Principals are Mr Tom Murdoch and Mr John Stradwick. Mr Murdoch is currently at Macleans College as Head of one of its Whanau Houses, overseeing the academic and pastoral well-being of 330 students. He is an English, History and Social Studies teacher, and is working towards his Masters in Secondary School Leadership run through Victoria University. He has previously taught in the UK, and was Master of English at Auckland Grammar. He has coached school rugby and cricket teams.

Mr Stradwick was MAGS’ Head Boy in 1993, and is currently Deputy Principal at Ormiston Junior College. In 2016 John returned to New Zealand after five years in India where he co-led an international school seeing it through to international accreditation. He has also taught in the UK and Asia in public, private, co-ed and single sex schools, and has been HOF of e-Learning and Humanities at St Peter’s College in Auckland. He has a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Masters in Educational leadership. He has coached football and cricket and been involved in student leadership activities. John and his wife Anna live in Mt Albert with their three sons, currently attending Gladstone School on their way to MAGS. He is looking forward to returning to his old school and giving back as a leader.

Mr Murdoch and Mr Stradwick will join current Deputy Principals Ms Shameen Hayat, Ms Sarah Hayes, Ms Catherine Horne and Mr Mark Rivalland.

Headmaster Mr Patrick Drumm congratulated the staff on their appointments. “They complete a strong and passionate Senior Leadership Team that will help lead MAGS to even greater heights in the years to come,” said Mr Drumm. “I am looking forward to working with them as we finalise the school’s five-year Strategic Plan and put it into action ahead of the school’s centenary in 2022.”
