With three wins from three, the Football Girls First XI are off to a flying start during tournament week. Yesterday’s two wins on day one were followed up by another victory today, 3-0 over Massey High.

In their first game, against Napier Girls’ High School, a strong start saw the Football Girls First XI open the scoring after two minutes with Grace Jale putting Kathryn Gow one-on-one with the ‘keeper to score.  Shortly after MAGS scored another goal – unfortunately this time an own goal to level the scores at 1-1. The next goal came after a corner to find Genevieve Ryan heading home to give MAGS the lead back again. Midway through the first half, after individual dribbling, Grace Jale scored to make it 3-1. Shortly before half-time, Maisy Dewell found Kathryn Gow, who scored again to make it 4-1.

MAGS started the second half well and another goal through Emma Fletcher made the score 5-1.  Late in the game, Kathryn Gow found Jayna Bennett in space, to score the final goal of the game for a 6-1 scoreline.

The second game against St Mary’s College Wellington was tougher. It wasn’t until midway through the first half that Kathryn Gow scored the first goal of the game. A few minutes later, Grace Jale connected with the ball outside the box to add a second. The second half gave MAGS two more goals –  the first from Jayna Bennett midway through the half, and the second another long-range goal to Grace Jale, to make the final score 4-0.
