Shalin Shah and Germain Hellriegel-White have been chosen to compete at the National Finals of the Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards on Thursday, September 6 in Wellington.
They will also participate in the Governor General’s Young Science Leaders Forum on Friday, 7 September.
The Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards competition challenges secondary school and tertiary undergrads to deliver a 12-minute presentation about how an application of science or technology will benefit New Zealand’s economic, environmental and social wealth and well-being.
HoF Science Aase Diegel said that nearly 60 students submitted entries for the 2018 Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards.
“To have two MAGS students amongst the 12 finalists is fantastic – six of the 12 finalists are university students!”
Selection for the National Finals means Shalin and Germain receive a Merit Award of $1500, compete for the Premier Award Trophy and a total of $10,000 in personal prize money, become a member of the Eureka! Alumni Group, and get to spend time with New Zealand science leaders.
Ms Diegel said, “This is an awesome achievement and is bound to be a memorable occasion for the two students involved.”
