MAGS’ first E-sports team has made the New Zealand final of the inaugural High School League, and will play off against Mount Roskill Grammar School at the Armageddon event at the ASB Showgrounds on Saturday, 21 October.

Formerly called video gaming, hundreds of teams from all over the country entered regional divisions of the League to play each other at the game League of Legends. After a series of elimination rounds MAGS and Mount Roskill came out on top, and will play the final in front of the Armageddon crowd, with their moves projected onto screens.

Teacher in charge Mr Ryan Thom said the seven boys in the team had been committed to training each week between their studies and other sports commitments.

“They’ve developed the skills required to succeed at the game – strategy, problem solving and a healthy competitive spirit. They deserve their place in the final.”
