2017 Albertian of the Year Sonny Bill Williams has been named in the All Blacks team to play the Lions, the day after he and fellow MAGS old boy Steven Luatua (left) starred in the Auckland Blues 22-16 victory over the British and Irish team.
Sonny Bill scored a try half way through the game, and later, with six minutes to go, Steven Luatua passed to Sonny Bill, who then played one of his signature off-loads to Ihaia West who sprinted over the line for the match-winning try.
Commentators praised both players for their dynamic, all round effort in the Blues game on Wednesday, 7 June. The following day, Sonny Bill was named in the All Blacks as a mid-fielder.
The All Blacks’ test matches against the Lions are in Auckland on June 24, Wellington on July 1 and back at Eden Park on July 8.
