The kaupapa around the MAGS haka Takatū continues to grow and strengthen, with our Juniors and staff enjoying some rousing and passionate performances yesterday.
Juniors have been practising their haka this week, and yesterday saw the Year 9 and Year 10 mentor classes competing against each other in the gym before the Year 9s and 10s faced off against each other in front of the grandstand.
In the haka-off, Year 10s were judged the winners by acclamation from staff.
The two groups then joined together for a finale that echoed around the school.
There was a lot on the line yesterday as well, with points earned on the day going towards the Interfrom Competition and determining the overall winners for the year.
The winning haka performances for the Year 9 girls and boys class combination was 09COO-09BLN, while the Year 10 competition was taken out by 10LND-10WOL.
Overall Junior School winners were: Year 9 Girls – 09KLE, Year 9 Boys – 09WAI, Year 10 Girls – 10UFT, and Year 10 Boys – 10TNR. These groups won themselves a trip to the movies.
The day wouldn’t have been possible without a huge effort from students and staff of Te Puna o Wairaka Takatū’ under the guidance of Te Puna o Wairaka’s Whaea Waimirirangi Paul, Matua Peter Walters, Whaea Te Ao Frandi and Whaea Waana Araroa.
