On November 24, Year 9 and Year 10 audiences saw the presentation of Junior Arts badges and Junior Arts trophies.
Nominations for Arts badges come from Arts HODs and Extracurricular group TICs, and achievement is validated by a robust points system.
Director of Arts Co-curricular Ms Cesan said, “It is exciting to announce that more junior students than ever before have qualified for this award, with 52 badges in all being earned.
“The badge ceremony was followed by the presentation of Junior Arts trophies, again exemplifying the level of achievement of this cohort.”
Following the award presentations, the audience were treated to some amazing entertainment from our junior Dance, Drama and Music students.
Opening the performance was Most Promising Junior Chorister Hayden Parkes, who gave a great rendition of Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain, accompanied by Year 9 music academy student Dehaan Perera
This was followed by a lyrical jazz dance by our Year 9 Junior Dance Performance Group. The item was beautifully choreographed and rehearsed by Year 11 extension students Rueben Moffett and Makaia Quensell.
Following this, the Year 9 drama class performed excerpts from their very successful production of The Campfire, for which students devised scenes around the theme of being at camp in rural NZ.
After this, the very talented and popular Junior MAGS Megacrew gave a stellar performance of a piece that they choreographed and rehearsed themselves.
Ms Cesan said, “The final performers of the day were outstanding and the audience loved it. This was the Year 9 Rock band UFO, who performed a song by Nirvana and an original written by band member Blake Spalding.
“A fantastic way to end a celebration of Junior Art talent.”
During the ceremony, the audience was also treated to a slideshow for some of the outstanding work of the MAGS’ Junior Visual Artists.
