This year’s guest speakers are Albertians Jack Goodhue, Kyle Harris and Taylah Tomokino, who will be interviewed by SKY Sport host and MAGS parent, Karl Te Nana.
Jack Goodhue went straight from MAGS’ First XV to a contract with Canterbury in the ITM Cup in 2014. The Centre was still only 21 and playing for the Crusaders this year when he was named as one of five back-up players to be injury cover for the 33-man squad selected for the three-test series against the British and Irish Lions. This season he returned to his home province of Northland for the Mitre 10 Cup, and scored a try in the Crusaders’ 25-17 victory over the South African Lions in their win of the 2017 Super Rugby Championship.
Kyle Harris is a Premier Rugby referee. He became Auckland’s youngest Premier referee at just 19 years old, and notched up his first 50 premier games at 23, in 2015. That year he was called into the NZRU’s wider training squad for high performance referees, and is now hoping for selection to the next level, the National Panel. Kyle was recently named Auckland Sevens Referee of the Year, and in November will officiate at the Dubai Sevens. This season his matches have included the Auckland A1 First XV final at Eden Park, the Gallagher Shield semi-final and a number of Mitre 10 Cup games.
Taylah Tomokino is a former 3 time BMX National Champion and was previously ranked 2nd in the World. Also having represented Samoa in the World Rugby 7’s Series circuit, Taylah now works for Sky Sport NZ broadcasting LIVE Sport. She also attends the University of Auckland where she graduated with a Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and is currently completing a Law degree. Taylah is an official Role Model for Duffy Books in Homes – reflecting her passion for reading and her wish to inspire children to read their way to opportunities.
Karl Te Nana was a member of the NZ Rugby Sevens team, winning a Gold Medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He now hosts, reports and commentates on international and New Zealand rugby for Sky Sport. Karl’s daughter is a student at MAGS.
