Niuean group third at PolyFest

MAGS’ Niuean Group had a great PolyFest with wins in Takalo (Boys war dance), Ta me (Action song) and Lologo tapu (Church song) categories to come third overall for Co Ed Schools. And Hosea Tavita came first in Boys Speech Overall.
The school’s Kapa Haka group finished 7th overall, a great result considering they were up against Maori immersion schools. This is how they ranked in the various categories: Kakahu Tane – 3rd, Wahine Kakahu – 9th, Wahine Leader – 4th, Tane Leader – 11th,  Tira – 4th,  Mau Rakau – 5th, Eke – 9th, Moteatea – 4th, Waiata a Ringa – 10th,  Poi – 6th, Haka – 5th, Watea – 6th, Mita o te reo – 6th.

The Samoan and Tongan groups did not place, while the Indian, Chinese and Cook Island groups were in non-competitive divisions although the Cook Island group did win the Merit Cup.
More than 280 students took part, with MAGS’ groups performing on Friday and Saturday.
