Twenty one students headed to the Karangahake Gorge between Paeroa and Waihi over the weekend of November 18-20 to complete a journey as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award at Bronze level. They were accompanied by teachers Mr Andy Belson and Ms Nadine Mackinnon.

Mr Belson reports: “The weather was changeable as we tramped up and down through the Gorge and the Karangahake Mountain. The campsite at Dickey Flat is the perfect place to learn about living in the outdoors and cooking with limited facilities. The students learned how to navigate, manage their team and be safe in the outdoors as well as participate in team-building activities. All the students were enthusiastic and tackled their journey energetically.”
