About Us

Welcome to the Mount Albert Grammar School Observatory website.

Mount Albert Grammar School has the most advanced observatory in any school in New Zealand. At the observatory, we conduct astrophysical research, teach students the joys of astrophotography and introduce a wide audience to the wonders of astronomy. We will endeavor to make our latest photometric data available, as well as some beautiful images of the Universe taken by our students. Here at the observatory, we conduct astrophysics research into the detection and study of Extra-solar planets. We use both the transit and gravitational microlensing methods.

This site also provides information, resources, assessments and links suitable for all astronomy and science educators in New Zealand.

This site fills a gap to provide free resources including NCEA unit and achievement standards, in both astronomy and science. With the demise of the Carter Distance Learning Unit, we are the only centralised Astronomy Education hub.
