1st XV vs Auckland Grammar School, Saturday 21 July 2012

The team started with good intensity and focus. With the Jubilee Cup, the Eddie Wilson Memorial Trophy and the Moascar Cup all up for grabs, this was going to be a big day. More importantly for us were the championship points which we needed.

From the off set, the intensity was high and bar a 10-minute period of bedlam, the game was won and lost. After Grammar gave away a sinbinning offence, we thought we were in with a chance to capitalise. To our detriment, they scored a good try after some very weak defence around the ruck area.

Then we were down to 14 men in the 27th minute and again they turned over some ball and scored a try close to the posts, which was converted. But the mayhem wasn't over. With 5 minutes to go, they would score two further tries and set us back at 24-0 down.

Half-time score; 0-24

Following some very open and positive words and self-examination by the team, we tried very hard to get back into the game. It would be another very hard and disappointing half where our cohesion would still stop us scoring. We were finally trying to play our game plan, but again would be thwarted by committed defence on their line. Many disallowed tries which may have needed better positioning by referees could have benefited us, but to no avail. Grammar would snatch another and the score would balloon out to 31-0.

We finally turned attack into points and after some great inter-play and support, Brody Lam scored out wide. George Edwards converted to give us our final score of the match.

We would really like to thank the great support and Blue n Yellow turn out for the day!

Full-time score; 7-31

Substitutions; Xavier Cowley, Joseph Keresoma, Ari Olo, Matthew Rongo, Wheriko Tawhiri and Dalton Woodman.

Scorers:
Tries: 1, Brody Lam

Conversions: 1 George Edwards (1/1)
