Today MAGS were up against tough opponents in Sacred Heart College. With the threat of rain and a soft field under foot, the boys took to the field for an exciting game.
With Sacred Heart having nothing to lose, it was if it were
to be their last game of the season, they came out firing
early on. They were rewarded with two early penalties, which
saw them take the lead MAGS 0 - 3 SHC.
They continued to attack the MAGS line and fight for field
possession and kept MAGS on the back foot, really testing
them in defense for a good 10 minutes. A few errors slowed
the game down, but MAGS had plans to speed things up and play
to their advantage which saw a good flair of the MAGS attack
which lead to the forwards muscling up front in the ruck to
get over the line, try scored by Dillan Halaholo MAGS were to
keep on and build momentum as the forwards soared with power
down the field and threatened the Sacret Heart line, but the
odd mistake crept in which led to missed opportunities. MAGS
bounced back with a won line out, which then went wide to
Damon Niko who broke a few tackles linking with Albert Nikoro
who unselfishly passed it to Milford Keresoma who scored in
the corner MAGS 5 - 3 SHC.
SHC continued to attack the MAGS line and fight for field
possession. While MAGS fought back quickly on the
score-board. With a great surging run, Louis Devery broke the
line to score. Another outstanding run followed, Ngana Lu'au
pushing and bumping off players as he went down to score.
MAGS looked to score again when an intercepted ball saw SHC
score a nearly 100m try just before the half finished.
Half time: MAGS 20 - 8 SHC
MAGS started off very slow and there were a few minutes of
time off, due to a serious injury which occurred. Great work
from both teams not letting each other through there
defensive line. Giving both teams equal amounts of territory
and possession. MAGS showed good attacking phases, but
couldn't capitalise out wide and mistakes made things more
even.
Great attack from Sacred Heart had MAGS going backwards for a
while ,until a loose ball was swept up by MAGS and they
continued to attack and build phases down into Sacred Hearts
half. A good hole which was found by Matt McGahan, breaking
right through the forwards, linked up with Scott Malolua,
then passing to Albert Nikoro to finish off a great MAGS try.
Matt Magahan converted the try MAGS 27 - 8 SHC.
The game was still being played at a high intensity pace and
Sacred heart had no signs of giving up. A late try by Milford
Keresoma on the full time whistle finished it off. Matt
McGahan used great vision passing to Milford Keresoma, who
was lurking on the inside to score beneath the sticks.
Converted by Albert Nikoro MAGS 34 - 8 SHC
Full Time: MAGS 38 - 0 SHC
