Vs St Kentigern College: May 22 2010

After a Friday of torrential rain that caused many to think it was going to continue to bucket down on Saturday, the sun came out and presented great conditions for MAGS in their search of their fifth straight win of the season.

 

MAGS came out of the changing sheds all fired up and quickly showed their accuracy, with a string of plays leading to a great attacking position in the opposition half. MAGS then showed great hands all round with Gafatasi Sua delivering a great off load to put Milford Keresoma over the line to score the first points of the game. Score MAGS 5 - 0 SKC.

MAGS continued to build pressure but due to a number of small errors, were forced back into their own half. Now defending their line, MAGS could not afford to give away penalties, however a penalty was given and St Kent's took and landed a shot at goal. Score MAGS 5 - 3 SKC

 

After a great kick and receive MAGS were back down in the St Kent's half. Whenever St Kent's tried to get out of their own half, the ball found its way back due to the great communication by the MAGS back 3.

After a time of continuous pick and goes from the forwards, MAGS were able to capitalise on their persistence with Gafatasi Sua driving over the line. The try was converted by Albert Nikoro. Score MAGS 12 - 3 SKC


With half time only a few minutes away MAGS were forced down onto their own line and were penalised. St Kent's took another shot at goal to increase their score line.

At the break the half time talk was based around cutting down the error rate and finishing as a team. This was the case, when straight after kick off MAGS camped down in the opposition 22. Great strength by the forwards with a notable performance by MAGS' No. 8 Dillion Halaholo saw Gafatasi Sua finish off again with his second try. The try was converted by Matt McGahan. Score MAGS 19 - 6 SKC

MAGS then found their confidence and began to play some brilliant running football. Their actions converting into points. The first of 3 tries came from hard work by the MAGS forward pack. Dillion Halaholo and Sean Brookman worked together well finishing off with Brookman executing an excellent try assist putting Halaholo under the cross bar. The try was converted by Albert Nikoro. Score MAGS 26 - 6 SKC


Good pressure from MAGS caused a penalty to be awarded. MAGS decided to slow things down and Matt McGahan successfully put 3 more points on the board. Score MAGS 29 - 6 SKC

MAGS then fired things back up with their second brilliant try. Off the kick off, the ball was spread wide and Damon Niko put an excellent grubber kick forward to see Matt McGahan add another 5 points to the score board. Score MAGS 34 - 6 SKC


After a great try MAGS were then under the pump with St Kent's throwing all that they had at the MAGS defence. MAGS were literally on their own goal line when with amazing vision by Albert Nikoro saw MAGS score a 100m team try. With four backs touching the ball at pace, the run was finished off with great skill by Damon Niko. MAGS 39 - 6 SKC .

St Kent's with a great never-say-die attitude were rewarded with a final try to close the scoreboard.
