MAG NZSSRS Condor Champions for 2009

The New Zealand Secondary School Rugby Sevens held at Grammar Carlton Rugby Grounds on the 5th of April, turned out to be a scorcher of a day.

MAGS had two teams competing throughout the day, due to a late withdrawal of a team on Friday night.

The MAGS 'Red' team as they were called because of their jerseys, did well with their one training. Having the toughest pool play to the final, were unable to win their first two games but finished the tournament strongly.

MAGS Red were the Winners of the Shield final.

MAGS 'Blue' had only one pool round match due to Mt Roskill's withdrawal on Snnday morning. They played Cambridge High School and after a close match were the eventual winners.

They then went onto play Rotorua Boys High School in the semi-final, and dominated the game with an outstanding 14 minutes from Milford Keresoma.

The final was against Wesley College, who had beaten last years winners, Hamilton Boys High School in the semi-finals. The first half went entirely scoreless, with MAGS saving two close tries with their excellent defence.

The second half saw Matt McGahan make an excellent break leading to an eventual try to Louis Devery.
Milford Keresoma made good use of a turnover ball, running away to score the second try of the game, which he converted.

Wesley came back strongly and were next to score an unconverted try.
MAGS held their defence for the remainder of the game and the final score MAGS 12 Wesley 5 giving MAGS the title.
