National Youth League:

The second Lion Foundation National Youth League begins the last week of January, 2008.
This league is about developing talent to progress to higher honours.

The ten league teams include a new Papakura based side and in a late change a NZ Development squad. This squad replaces the originally named NZ U16 squad which was scrapped by the NZF due to cost concerns and has come about thanks to a rescue package put together by Waitakere United Chairman Rex Dawkins and Auckland City President Ivan Vuksich.

Auckland and Waitakere will release players from their own squads on a week by week basis to make up the numbers in the NZ Development squad which will play a full role in the northern conference but is ineligible for the playoffs.

Players representing Waitakere United inlude Pomare Te Anau, Ash Solly, Malcolm McRae, Ryan Elder, McRae Sloper, Skye Reeves-Parmenter in the squad of twenty four players.

For Auckland City Sam Campbell, Mark Withers, Milosh Nikolic, Rhys Ruka and Zane Sole are also named in their 24 man squad.

The second game of the season left Auckland City ahead on points with a win 2 - 0.
