Squash - 2012

Junior Girls Squash Results for the 2012 Season

The Junior A Girls Squash team have won the Junior Girls tournament for Auckland. They received a total of 29 points out of a possible 32. They were 6 points ahead of their nearest rival Glendowie College.

The Junior B team also played well ending the season in the middle of the field. This is a great acheivement as well as the girls in this team had never played squash before.

Congratulations goes to the girls for their results and also for their sportsmanship towards other teams and each other. They were a credit to MAGS and themselves.

A special thanks goes to Stuart Fraser who has coached the girls.

Match Report - St Kentigern College - Friday 18 May

Great win and the two games we lost were by 2-3. Both losses were by 1 point at the sudden death that College Sport have instructed us to play. Normal squash is winning by 2 points when it gets to 14 all. Paul Blanchard and Erik Scharting won convincingly, but Rhonda Lepper and Aaron McClelland both had their chances, but lost narrowly. All matches were played in excellent spirit and the losses still earned us 4 valuable points towards our goal of being placed in the top 3.

Squash is on a roll this year with 7 teams entered in the competition. Stuart Fraser from Eden Epsom, an Auckland Squash sponsored coach is on our school courts every Tuesday afternoon from 3.15 6pm. Players from all the teams attend the appropriate sessions, which begin with the girls at 3.15 and end with the senior boys from 5-6pm. Stuart is assisted by students, Paul Blanchard, Rhonda Lepper and Director of Guidance, Paul Ferner. The benefits of this coaching is clear to see, with the results at all levels showing the practice and the increased competition with the teams evident.

Many of the visiting parents have commented on the upgraded courts and how lucky the school is to have this venue. They would be one of the truest and brightest venues in Auckland.
