AUCKLAND SECONDARY SCHOOLS GYMSPORTS - 23 JULY, PAPAKURA

Strength, power, agility, discipline and flexibility were all demonstrated today at the Auckland Secondary Schools Gymsports Competition.

Mount Albert had three students competing in various disciplines and all finished with placings.

Penny Bennett - Trampolining

Penny competed in the "Elite" group competition and after two excellent performances won her category comfortably with scores of 23.15 in the compulsory routine and 32.15 in her free routine.
Penny is the current New Zealand Junior Champion in the synchronized category with her partner, Erin Weston and narrowly missed out in the World qualifiers in Christchurch last weekend.

Hannah Pringle - Tumbling / Artistic Gymnastics

In two separate competitions (Club A) Hannah won the tumbling competition with scores of 29.17 and 29.20. The artistic competition required Hannah to perform on the beam, floor, vault and bar. Despite an unfortunate mistake on the parallel  bars, Hannah finished in second place and now looks forward to the Nationals in September.

Reid McGowan - Artistic Gymnastics

Men's Artistic (Grade A) requires each competitor to perform in six disciplines; floor, vault, rings, high bar, pommel and vault. Despite toning down his routines to protect an injury, Reid finished in third place and performed magnificently.

Well done to Hannah, Penny and Reid for some outstanding performances and just reward for the hours of training they put in each week.
