Aaron Booth wins Gold at the Oceania Combined Events Youth Octathlon in Tahiti
Congratulations to Senior Boys Athletics Champion, Aaron Booth, who has returned home with a gold medal following the Oceania Combined Events Championships, which were held in conjunction with the Oceania Area Championships from 5-7 June in Tahiti.
Aaron competed in the Under 18 Youth Octathlon and won seven of his eight events scoring a personal best total of 5231 points. He had an outstanding meeting recording personal bests in: shot put, long jump and javelin. His first equal height of 1.91m in the high jump was his highest scoring event earning him an impressive 723 points for the event.

Aaron finished 745 points ahead of his nearest rival, which was a tremendous effort over the two days of competition, especially in an out-of-season competition.
Cycling - Guy Hirst
Guy Hirst performed very well at the recent North Island Schools' Track Cycling Championships held in Te Awamutu. He is pictured left receiving his gold medal in the U19 Boys' Elimination race. He was second in the U19 Boys' Points Race and gained two third placings in the U19 Boys' 1000m Time Trial and 5000m Scratch Race.
Lacrosse - Amelia Scharting and Briar Tippett
Amelia Scharting and Briar Tippett are the youngest members of the New Zealand Women's Lacrosse Team (the NZBlax), and are the only two who are still at high school.
The team has been training for the past 18 months in the lead up to the World Cup in July, which will be held in Oshawa, Canada.
There will be 19 countries competing, and they are hoping to improve their world ranking of 12th, aiming to place in the top 8. Prior to the World Cup, they will be participating for five days in the Down Under Cup, held in Melbourne, and also taking part in a few games of the Australian Nationals.
MAGS wins the inaugural Jubilee Cup Day Competition

On Saturday 18 May, Mount Albert Grammar School and St Kentigern College went head to head to contest the Jubilee Cup for 2013.
St Kentigern College are the current holders of the Jubilee Cup, which was presented for the first time in 2012 during the MAGS 90th Jubilee celebrations, following their victory in the 1st XV Rugby encounter.
This year, the two headmasters decided to involve four premier sports teams, making this special inter-school fixture for the coveted Jubilee Cup a more prestigious event.
Mount Albert Grammar School secured the Jubilee Cup with two wins and two draws. Congratulations to all our teams involved and to the enthusiastic support from the MAGS community.

Maia Wilson
A member of both our Premier Netball team and the New Zealand Secondary Schools Netball team, Year 11 student Maia Wilson is a currently member of the New Zealand U17 Basketball team that will be travelling to the World Championships this year.

Auckland Secondary Schools Bowls Championships
Congratulations to Year 13 student Cole Moir, who has progressed through to the Quarter-finals of the Auckland Secondary Schools Bowls Singles Championships, which will be held at the Remuera Bowling Club on Monday 10 June.
This is the first time MAGS has entered this competition in recent history.

Cycling Auckland Team Trials Sunday 19th May Airport Loop
We had our first day of racing on Sunday. The boys team of Jeremy Broutte, Logan Crook, Thomas Gant, Henry Russell and Rasmus Jacobsen posted a great time of 28:53 and came in 26th place. Three of the riders are juniors and Jeremy and Rasmus were in their first event. Their time and place represents a great start to the season.
The girls team of Kate Wislang, Jenelle Chitty and Alex Thompson rode a strong race. Injury and unavailability meant they had only three riders and did not post an official time. They rode with great spirit and determination.
Well done to the riders.
2013 North Island Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships
Congratulations to Y9 student Theresa Boyd for her success at this event held at the Auckland Botanic Gardens and Woodhill Forest during the holidays. Theresa placed third out of 42 competitors in the Junior Girls Long Distance Course (3km); fourth out of 52 in the Junior Girls Short Sprint Course (2km); and second in the Intermediate Girls Team Relay where she was part of a composite team of three (with girls from other schools). The best boys results included Y13's Oliver Brooks and Jarrod Wilson coming 11th in the Senior Boys Team Relay and Y11 Andrew Battley finishing in the top third of competitors in the Intermediate Boys Short Sprint Course. Swimming: Champion of Champions - Tuesday 16 April
Our swimmers competed in this event at West Wave in Henderson in 11 individual events and 9 Relay events.
Mt Albert Grammar School have won the Open 200 LC Metre Butterfly Relay for the 3rd year running.The team was made up of Charlotte Prichard, Caitlin Pritchard, Morgan Wadley and Rima Williams.

In addition, the Junior Girls team of Katherine Grozev, Hana Newnham-McGrath, Amy Hirst and Ajaleyah Taylor also won the 200m Medley Relay and the Junior Girls team Hana Newnham-McGrath, Ajaleyah Taylor, Jessica Hefford and Katherine Grozev won the 200m Backstroke Relay.

Monday 29 April - MAGS won 9-4 against Sacred Heart Hamilton A
Tuesday 30 April - MAGS won 5-1 against St Mary's College and 14-4 against Rotorua Lakes High School.
Wednesday 1 May - MAGS won 11-10 against Waikato Diocesan and then the quarter-final 6-3 against Tauranga
Thursday 2 May - Semi-final - MAGS lost 4-5 against Carmel College and won the bronze final 7-4 against St Mary's College.

Athletics - Auckland Secondary School Championships -Tuesday 26 March
This meeting was held at the Towers Track, Mt Smart Stadium. Six athletes competed at King's College the following day in the 3000m and Open Boys' and Girls' 300m Hurdles events.
A team of 54 athletes participated in the full range of athletic events during the two days winning a total of 30 medals, which included ten titles, 12 silver medals and eight bronze medals, which surpasses last year's result of 26 medals. This was an outstanding effort from a bigger number of athletes, showing the diversity of the athletic talent at MAGS in 2013. Gillette Cup: Auckland Final. March 25
The Boys' First XI Cricket teamplayed Auckland Grammar School at Colin Maiden Park to win a place in the national final of the Gillette Cup at Lincoln, Christchurch later in the year.
MAGS made 212/8 in their overs and had Grammar at 40/4 at one stage with three run outs to finish the day at 118 all out.

The Premier Boys' team are the New Zealand Champions having beaten Nelson College in the final 3 - 1.
Athletics - Western Zone Qualifying Meet - Wednesday 27 February
A team of 69 athletes travelled to the Douglas Track at the Trusts Stadium, Waitakere for the Western Zone Athletics Qualifying Meeting on Wednesday 27 February. The athletes picked up a total of 37 titles.
The performance of the day came with the winning jump by Senior Boy, Cameron Emerson in the Triple Jump, where he recorded a massive 13.70m jump, which would rank him 2nd in the Junior Men (U20) age group and 1st in the Youth Men (U18) age group on the Athletics New Zealand National ranking list for the 2012-2013 season. Other highlights were: Junior Boy Caleb Clarke who won three titles and finished 4th in the High Jump with a height good enough to make the Greater Auckland finals. Baseball
The inaugural baseball team at Mount Albert Grammar School has won the Auckland Championship, defeating One Tree Hill College 14-6. The team beat the previous two-year champions Auckland Grammar School in pool play. They then beat Botany Downs College comprehensively 16-3 in the semi-final. Congratulations.

MAGS Cricketers make Auckland Secondary School Team
Twins Aditya and Amit Dhadwal have been selected to play for the Auckland Secondary School side to play in the Frank Gratten Quad Tournament at Waikaraka Park on 17-19 March. Included in the tournament are teams from Canterbury and Waikato. Aditya captains MAGS 1st XI to the Auckland Championship and Amit has scored over 500 runs for the MAGS 1st XI this season. Congratulation to these two students.
Boys Cricket First XI Auckland One-Day Champions
Congratulations to the Boys' First XI Cricket on winning the final of the Maryatt Cup for the one-day championship. This puts them into the semi-final of the Gillette Cup.
They played at Keith Hay Park and made 210/7 off their 50 overs and contained Westlake to 76 runs all out off 24 overs.

The annual swimming sports were held on Tuesday 19 February at the Aquatic Centre. We had around 90 students competing, there was a great atmosphere and the event was enjoyed by all. The following four school swimming records were broken:

Boys' Baseball
MAGS is excited to announce our newest code - Boys' Baseball. We have entered a 16 strong team into the Auckland Secondary Schools Competition which started on Wednesday 14 February and will play every Wednesday for the next five weeks. The team is a mixture of boys that play club baseball and those that play in our Premier Boys' Softball team. It is fortunate to have Mrs Cathy Trudeau as its Manager and Mr Tim Olliff as the Coach.
The team won their first game against King's College by a score of 8-6.
New Zealand Representatives
Cameron Sinclair and Cameron Hogg, both members of the MAGS 1st XI Boys Football team have been selected in the 17 player National U19 Secondary School Representative Team to tour Ireland and the United Kingdom in April and May of this year. Congratulations to these boys on their fantastic achievement.
Albertians Erikana Pedersen & Nadia Loveday, who were both in the 2012 Premier Netball team, have been named in NZU21 team for the World Championships in Glasgow in August 2013.
