Professional Development
Although our teaching staff have found myclasses to be a very user-friendly system, effective implementaion requires comprehensive, regular, step-by-step professional development.
We have a three-year implementation plan which will be followed by on-going training and development. The programme is as follows:
2005
- Four very interested staff attended a three-day course facilitated by a myinternet trainer during the July Holidays.
- These staff created pages for their classes over Term 3.
- At the end of the term, we had a "show and tell" at a staff meeting. Myclasses had a very positive reception.
- Further interested staff were offered training in the September holidays.
- About 10 staff attended the training, created pages to use with their classes in Term 4.
- All staff who had used myclasses were asked to provide feedback.
- A proposal was submitted to and accepted by Faculty to formalise the use of myclasses in 2006.
-
Whole-staff
PD in department groups was facilitated during the junior
exams.
- The requirements for myclasses are incorporated in the school goals and are part of performance appraisal.
-
Every course
is to have a support page e.g. Year 9 Science, NCEA Level 3
Biology.
- The page must contain the course outline, any assignments set and useful weblinks. (For equity reasons, teachers must still supply a hard copy of assessment criteria to students.)
- Every teacher must create at least one page for one class during the year.
- Professional development will be provided at beginner level for new staff and at a more advanced level for experienced staff.
-
A formal
review of progress in 2006 will be done during Term 4.
- Paul Thompson appointed as Project Manager.
-
Elise
Goddard to continue to work with English and Languages.
- On-going professional development.
- Introduction of eLFs to all staff.
-
Promotion of
other properties - Forums, Vote For, Calendar, etc.
-
A formal
review of progress in will be done at the end of Term 3 each
year.
Three Very Important Things for Staff to Remember .
- All images must be web-ready (photos need to be down-sized to 72 dpi)
- All files must have their extension (e.g. .doc. xls. pps .pdf)
-
Your school
must have conventions for naming the pages so the menus have
consistency and files so that they do not look messy.
