Vs Southern Cross School: June 24,2009.

As they say "all good things must come to an end" Unfortunately the curtains were drawn on what can be judged, a successful season.

Obviously the team would have loved to be a part of the grand final next week, but each and every one of the boys can hold their head high knowing what they achieved this season. A team of relative nobodies have managed to do the unthinkable and revitalise Rugby League here at the school. With outstanding performances week in and week out they were honoured to have played in front of their peers, and on the beloved number 1 pitch.

The result is not a true indication of the match. As has been said many times "it was a game of two halves" unfortunately for the team they had left their run too late. Southern Cross had asserted their forward dominance from the start, with bullocking runs from their front row, backed up by some intelligent play from the halves. The team failed to match the intensity, and although spirited were unable to gain any ascendency.

The second half saw a much better start. Forwards were making meters and this allowed the haves to show structure and be able to create opportunities. Tries were scored by Tyla Hepi, (making a debut after returning from injury). He also topped the tackle count with 22 tackles. Also once again Adam Henry (stand-in Captain) was the other try scorer. At least 3 scoring opportunities went begging. Unforced errors and silly mistakes cost the team dearly. Southern Cross made us pay.

All in all it has been a huge success. Regardless of the results, MAGS has once again proven to be a force on the league field. Credit to all those that put their hand up throughout the season and stuck it out.

There are already plans in place for the 2010 season and beyond. Hopefully we can secure the services of many of the current players for next year. Along with coach Frank Harold (Assistant Warriors Under 20/Development).

Thank you all for your support and encouragement,

PER AUGUSTA, AD AUGUSTA.
